Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City, Chittoor, has one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position in the research project “RES-SDSC-2025-002: Space Debris RCS Estimation and dynamics Characterisation from MOTR Space Debris tracked data”. The project runs for 18 months, and the fellowship is Rs. 37000 + 10% HRA, as per the funding agency norm. Candidates need a B.Tech./B.E. in Electronics and communication/Equivalent and an M.Tech./M.E. in RF and Microwave Engineering/Equivalent, each with 60% (or 6.5/10 CGPA). About IIIT Sri City

Indian Institute of Information Technology Sri City, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, describes itself as a Research and Teaching Institute focused on Computer Science, Electronics and Communications, and their applications in other domains. It is an Institution of National Importance set up by the Government of India (MHRD), the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Industry Partners (represented by Sri City Foundation) as a not-for-profit Public Private Partnership (N-PPP) Society.

The JRF post is in a project taken up under administrative approval No. DS-2B-13012(2)/32/2026-Sec.2 from SDSR-SHAR, ISRO, dated 22 October 2026. The project works with data from the Multi Object Tracking Radar (MOTR), an L-Band Active Phased Array Radar that has tracked and catalogued nearly 54 space objects at altitudes of 400 to 900 km. The received signal is studied to find a debris object’s dynamics, spin, size and RCS, so that the debris can be catalogued and its drag coefficient and lifetime worked out.

Who Can Apply

Essential Academic Qualifications

Candidates need both of the following:

• B.Tech./B.E. in Electronics and communication/Equivalent with 60% (or 6.5/10 CGPA) and above, and
• M.Tech./M.E. in RF and Microwave Engineering/Equivalent with 60% (or 6.5/10 CGPA) and above.

SC/ST/PwD applicants get a 5% relaxation in the marks for each of these qualifications.

Desirable Qualification

NET/GATE/national level examinations conducted by the Central Govt and their agencies etc. This is listed as a desirable qualification, not an essential one.

Essential Skills

• Strong knowledge in electromagnetics fundamentals
• Fundamentals of radar, Types of Radars, working principles of Tracking Radars
• Radar cross section, theoretical models to compute RCS
• Basis understanding of space debris, size estimation models, free space wave propagation, and Good hands on using MATLAB/Python

Desirable Skills

• Strong knowledge in Antenna concepts
• Working experience EM simulation tools
• Good understanding of ML models
• The preference may be given to candidates who have published papers in reputed Journals/Conferences (paid journals are not considered)

Pay and Tenure

The fellowship is set by the funding agency norm: Rs. 37000 + 10% HRA for a JRF. The notice states that no other allowances are admissible.

The project duration is 18 months. The position is purely temporary, and the candidate’s association with the institute ends automatically on the closing date of the project. Either the PI of the project or the candidate can end the association at any time with one month’s notice in writing. Progress is monitored continuously, and the JRF may be asked to leave if performance is unsatisfactory.

Selection and Interview

Shortlisting is based on the needs of the project. Meeting the prescribed qualification does not guarantee a call for interview. Only shortlisted candidates are told the interview date, by email. The Institute reserves the right to accept applications at any time and to consider candidates with exceptional credentials who have not applied. Selected candidates must be able to report to the institute immediately.
