Who Can Apply

Assistant Engineer (Civil)

Essential experience: Seven years post qualification experience in supervisory capacity or above in works relating to civil, and to construction and maintenance of Infrastructure projects including housekeeping. This experience must be in a Shipyard, an Engineering company, a Large Civil construction company, or a Government / Semi-Government Company / Establishment.

Desirable:

• Ability to speak in Hindi/ Bengali/ English.
• Knowledge of civil construction and maintenance practices related to marine/industrial infrastructure.
• Familiarity with dry dock and berth maintenance activities.
• Ability to supervise manpower and contractors effectively.
• Understanding of engineering drawings, estimates, and specifications.
• Good coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Awareness of industrial safety procedures and quality practices.
• Basic computer knowledge for reporting and documentation.

Assistant Engineer (Mechanical)

Experience: Seven years post qualification experience in mechanical works in a Shipyard, a Dockyard, an Engineering Company or a Government Establishment. Out of the seven years, two years should be in supervising mechanical works and workmen.

Desirable:

• Ability to speak in Hindi/ Bengali/ English.
• Experience of working in an ERP/ SAP/ computerised environment.

सिविल पद के लिए तीन साल की डिप्लोमा और सात साल का पर्यवेक्षी अनुभव जरूरी है जो शिपयार्ड या बड़े निर्माण क्षेत्र में हो। मैकेनिकल पद के लिए भी समान योग्यता और अनुभव चाहिए, जिसमें कम से कम दो साल पर्यवेक्षण का हो। हिंदी, बंगाली या अंग्रेजी भाषा का ज्ञान और कंप्यूटर की बुनियादी समझ फायदे की बात है।

Qualification Conditions

• The qualification must be from a University/Institute/Examination Board recognised by AICTE, an appropriate statutory authority, or a State or Central Government.
• Applicants who do not have the prescribed qualification but hold higher qualifications such as B. Tech or M. Sc. shall not be considered.
• Applicants with an equivalent qualification must submit an Equivalency Certificate issued by the Competent Authority. Without it, the application will not be considered.
• Applicants must fill in the exact percentage of marks in the online application. Where the board gives grade points and does not define a conversion, the Aggregate Grade Points may be multiplied by 10 to get the percentage.

Experience Conditions

• Only experience gained after passing the prescribed qualification counts. Post-qualification experience is reckoned as on 27 November 2026.
• Completed Apprenticeship Training in the relevant discipline/trade under the Apprentices Act, 1961 counts as experience, and so does any training with remuneration. Training does not count towards the two years of supervisory experience.
• For short listing, CSL considers only experience certificates from companies registered under the Companies Act, 1956 or foreign companies of equivalent status.
• Applicants currently employed without an experience certificate should submit their Appointment / Offer letter and latest Pay Slip / copy of last Pay drawn. For past jobs, the experience certificate must show the dates of joining and relieving.
• Experience with contractors (Proprietary and Partnership Firms) may be considered if the Principal Employer has endorsed the certificate. Applicants must also give further proof such as ESI/EPF statements.
• Applicants must state the nature of work and the duties handled in each job and upload the experience certificate with the online application.
• Employees currently working on the regular rolls of CSL or any CSL unit are not eligible to apply for the same posts at the same pay scales.

Age Limit

For both posts, the upper age limit shall not exceed 45 years as on 27 November 2026. This means applicants should be born on or after 28 November 1981. Age relaxation for Ex-servicemen is as per Government of India guidelines, up to 50 years.

Ex-servicemen must submit their Discharge Certificate/ Book/ Pension Payment Order from the Armed Forces. With the online application, they must also submit an undertaking (as per Annexure–III) that they have not been re-employed in Government after availing the benefits for ex-servicemen.

Pay and Tenure

Both posts are in grade PS1 with the pay scale ₹ 28,000-3%-1,10,000. The notice gives these monthly emoluments as on date:

• Other benefits listed in the notice, as admissible under CSL rules: New Pension Scheme, Contributory Provident Fund, Gratuity, Accident Insurance coverage, Medical Assistance Scheme, Post-Retirement Medical Assistance Scheme, Earned Leave encashment and Performance related Payment.
• The selected candidate will be placed at the minimum of the pay scale. Pay protection will not be considered.
• Posting will be at CSL Kolkata Ship Repair Unit (CKSRU) Kolkata or any other CSL units/project sites as desired by CSL. The candidate is liable to be transferred to different units of CSL depending on project requirements.
• The appointment carries the obligation to serve in any department of CSL, on board ships, or in any unit, work site or project in any part of India or abroad.
• CSL will not bear any liability for salary, leave salary, gratuity or pension contribution related to a candidate’s previous employment in Government or Public Sector Undertakings.

Assistant Engineer (Civil)

• Planning, organizing and coordinating civil engineering works for ship repair infrastructure, including dry docks, berths, workshops, buildings, roads, drainage systems and other allied facilities.
• Execution and timely completion of civil maintenance, construction and infrastructure development works related to ship repair projects.
• Supervising and monitoring civil works associated with ship docking, afloat repairs, estate management, housekeeping services, staging/scaffolding activities and vessel accommodation works.
• Coordinating with production, planning, mechanical, electrical and safety departments, clients, vendors and contractors.
• Supervising contractors and workforce and ensuring optimum utilization of manpower, machinery, equipment and materials.
• Ensuring civil works follow approved drawings, technical specifications, quality standards, work schedules and statutory requirements.
• Conducting routine inspections of civil structures and maintaining records of work progress, site activities, measurements and material utilization.
• Assisting in the preparation of estimates, work orders, technical reports and project documentation.
• Ensuring strict compliance with Yard Quality Management System, HSE requirements, environmental regulations and safety standards.
• Participating in emergency repair works, breakdown maintenance and other urgent civil engineering activities as and when required.
• Being a good team player, being willing to travel at short notice, and working against set targets within the stipulated time frame.
• Performing any other duties assigned by the competent authority in the interest of the Company.

How to Apply for CSL Recruitment 2026

1. Read the User Manual and FAQ published at www.cochinshipyard.in (Career page → CKSRU, Kolkata) before you start.
2. Complete the One-time Registration in the SAP Online portal. You can reach the portal through www.cochinshipyard.in (Career page → CKSRU, Kolkata) from 05 November 2026 to 27 November 2026.
3. Submit the application against the post. Submit only one application; once submitted, it is final.
4. Upload certificates in proof of age, educational qualification, experience, caste etc. and a recent passport size colour photograph. Applications without these will be rejected.
5. Pay the application fee of ₹ 400/- online, unless you are SC/ST.
6. After you submit, log in to My Applications and check that the status shows “In process”. Incomplete, withdrawn and draft-status applications are not considered.
7. Keep a soft copy or printout of the application with the unique registration number, and quote this number in any correspondence with CSL.

Applications sent directly or by any other mode will not be accepted. You do not need to post the printout, certificates or fee (DD/Challan/Cheque) to Cochin Shipyard Ltd/CKSRU. On the last date, no technical support by email or phone may be available after 1600 hrs.

Applicants in regular Government service or in Government-owned organisations should apply online directly. They must upload a declaration (as per Annexure–II) that they have informed their employer in writing. Their candidature will not be considered if the employer raises an objection.

Application Fee

The fee is paid only online (Debit card/Credit card/Internet Banking etc.) through the online application facility, from 05 November 2026 to 27 November 2026. No other mode of payment is accepted. For applicants who must pay, the application is considered only after the fee is received. Fees are not refunded after submission or withdrawal of an application.

Selection and Interview

The selection for both posts has these stages: Phase I offline test (Objective Type – 40 Marks and Descriptive Type – 40 Marks), then Certificate Verification, then Phase II PowerPoint presentation on work experience (20 Marks). The process will be conducted at CKSRU, Kolkata, or through interview via electronic media.

Phase I – Objective Test

The objective test lasts 45 minutes. It has Part A (General) and Part B (Discipline related). Each question carries one mark, and there is no negative marking.

Phase I – Descriptive Test

The descriptive offline test is worth 40 marks and lasts 90 minutes, with discipline related questions. CSL will evaluate the descriptive answer sheets only of candidates who reach the minimum pass mark in the objective test and meet the eligibility requirements. The minimum pass mark for all categories (except PwBD) is 50% of the total marks of each test. The syllabus for both tests is in Annexure I, which the notice says is only indicative and not exhaustive.

Tests will be held in West Bengal, as decided by CKSRU, depending on the number of applications. CSL alone decides the allocation of exam centres. Depending on the number of applications, CSL may also shortlist applicants by checking the certificates they uploaded.

Certificate Verification

Qualified candidates are called for certificate verification in order of merit/reservation, at a minimum ratio of 6 candidates per post. Candidates must produce all certificates in original. Only those who clear verification attend Phase II, which may go ahead even with fewer than 1:6 candidates.

Phase II – PowerPoint Presentation

Phase II is a presentation of not more than ten minutes on the candidate’s work experience, worth 20 marks. It will be held at CSL-Kolkata Ship Repair Unit, Kolkata. The rank list is based on the total marks of Phase I and Phase II. Ties are broken first by the discipline marks in the objective test and then by seniority in age.

Candidates attending the selection at CKSRU, Kolkata get single to-and-fro third AC rail fare by the shortest route from their mailing address, on proof. To claim it, they must submit a copy of the front page of their savings bank passbook with account number and IFSC code at certificate verification. This does not apply to selection through electronic media, or to candidates found ineligible at verification.
