Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Qualification

The minimum educational qualification follows Schedule I of the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992. ITI trades eligible for each designated trade are as per Schedule I, as amended from time to time.

The notification says applications are invited from Non-ITI candidates (2 trades), ITI-qualified candidates (30 trades) and freshers. Candidates who have passed ITI can apply in their respective trades or corresponding NCVT-approved trades as per Schedule I. As per the Apprentices Act, 1961, there is no upper age limit for apprenticeship training. Only a minimum age applies, counted on the crucial date (the closing date for receipt of online applications).

Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Salary and Stipend

Apprentices are paid a monthly stipend as per MSDE guideline DGT-36/1/2021-AP dated 15 Sep 25. The stipend and training period vary by trade.

• Reservation for SC and ST is as per Schedule II A of the Apprentice Rules, 1992, and for OBC (NCL) as per Maharashtra Act No. VIII of 2004.
• Reserved vacancies are filled separately from eligible SC, ST and OBC candidates, who are either lower in merit than the last candidate on the merit list of the UR category or SC/ST/OBC (NCL) candidates who have availed age relaxation, irrespective of their position in the merit list.

Candidates should satisfy the minimum standards of physical fitness under Rule A and Schedule II of the Apprentices Rules 1992:

• Free from Tuberculosis, contagious/infectious diseases and any disease likely to be aggravated by service causing danger to public health.
• Height: 137 cms minimum. Weight: 25.4 Kgs minimum. Chest expansion: 3.8 cms minimum.
• Eyes: free from morbidity of either eye or eyelids.
• Free from any other chronic illness of the Alimentary System, Cardio Vascular, Respiratory System, Genito-Urinary System, Skeletal System, Nervous System, Glandular System, Ears, Skin and Speech.

Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Selection Process

Selection is carried out as per extant guidelines of the Competent Authority. The stages are as follows.

• Screening of applications: Naval Dockyard Mumbai will not carry out detailed scrutiny of online applications before the examination. Detailed scrutiny of documents is done at a subsequent stage.
• Shortlisting: Fulfilling the basic criteria does not automatically entitle a candidate to the written examination. If applications are too many in proportion to vacancies, the authority may shortlist applications, in the ratio of 1:25 for every available vacancy in each trade and category.
• Merit calculation: Equal weightage (50:50) is given to marks in Class 10th from a recognised Board and marks in the ITI consolidated statement of marks for AITT issued by NCVET. For Crane Operator (SI), 100% weightage is given to Class 10th. For Rigger, 100% weightage is given to Class 8th.
• Written examination: Objective type, OMR format, as described below.
• Medical examination: Selected candidates must submit a medical fitness certificate from a Government hospital before being engaged, as per Rule 4 and Schedule II of the Apprentices Rules.

Resolution of Ties

1. Marks in the written examination are considered first.
2. If written exam marks are the same, the older candidate (by date of birth) ranks higher.
3. If date of birth is also the same, alphabetical order of the first name is considered.

Scribe Facility

• PwBD candidates with disability of 40% and above: A scribe is given to candidates with blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected – BA) and cerebral palsy if desired. For other benchmark disabilities, a certificate of physical limitation to write and need of a scribe is required from the Chief Medical Officer / Civil Surgeon / Medical Superintendent of a Government health care institution (Appendix I, MoSJE OM 34-02/2015-DD-III dated 29 Aug 2018). If the candidate brings their own scribe, the scribe’s qualification must be one step below the candidate’s, and details are submitted in the proforma at Appendix II of the same OM.
• PwD candidates with disability less than 40%: Scribe and/or compensatory time is granted only to those having difficulty in writing, on a certificate from the competent medical authority of a Government health care institution (Appendix I, MoSJE OM F. No. 29-6/2019-DD-III dated 10 Aug 2022). Own-scribe rules are the same, with the proforma at Appendix II of that OM.

1. Visit https://www.apprenticeshipregistration.com and download the online application guidelines before filling in the form.
2. Check that you meet the educational qualification and other criteria. Candidates from a Board or institution using the grade point system must get grade points converted into percentage of marks by the appropriate authority, or use a conversion chart from the respective Board. If unavailable, the lowest percentage of the grade point will be considered for shortlisting.

Important Instructions for Candidates

• Previous training: Candidates undergoing apprenticeship in any Govt./Public Sector/Private industrial organisation must terminate their ongoing contract through the MSDE Portal before applying, and must have fulfilled any cooling down criterion if applicable.
• Multiple applications: Do not submit multiple applications. If more than one is submitted, the one with the higher application number, if complete in all respects, is the only one considered.
• Provisional candidature: Applications are accepted provisionally. False or incorrect information leads to cancellation without prejudice to legal action.
• Caste certificates: SC/ST candidates must hold a latest caste certificate and produce the original on demand. OBC candidates must produce a valid caste certificate stating they do not belong to the creamy layer, in the format under GoI DoP&T OM 36033/1/2013-Estt(Res) dated 27 May 2013 and 36036/2/2013-Estt.(Res) dated 30 May 2014. If the OBC(NCL) certificate is not in the prescribed format or outside its validity period, the candidate is treated as General.
• Applying early: Apply well before the closing date. Naval Dockyard Mumbai is not responsible for mistakes in the online application or for non-receipt of communication on the registered mobile number/email.
• At the exam centre: Carry the admit card and an original photo ID (passport / Aadhaar / Driving licence / Govt. issued ID). Late reporting after the time on the admit card is not permitted. • Employment after training: Naval Dockyard Mumbai is not obliged to offer employment after training, and the apprentice is not obliged to accept. Ex-Naval Apprentices can apply for Tradesman Skilled in Naval Dockyards per recruitment rules, subject to the upper age limit for that post, which also applies to those applying for Tradesman Skilled in the Indian Navy.
