JKPSC Assistant Professor Vacancy 2026 – Post-wise Details

Out of 205 total posts, 183 are for Assistant Professor across 27 subject disciplines, plus a separate Assistant Professor (Computer Application) post, 9 for College Director of Physical Education & Sports, and 4 for Librarian. The category-wise break-up for each discipline is given below.

PHC (Persons with Health/Physical Challenge) reservation posts, if any, will be notified separately, per the notification.

JKPSC Assistant Professor Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility varies by post. The core requirement for most Assistant Professor disciplines is a Master’s degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/differently-abled candidates and PhD holders who obtained their Master’s before 19 September 1991), along with NET/SLET/SET or an equivalent PhD under the applicable UGC regulations. Alternate routes exist for candidates with a PhD from a foreign university ranked in the world’s top 500 (QS, THE, or ARWU).

JKPSC Assistant Professor Qualification (General Disciplines)

• Master’s Degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Differently-abled categories or PhD holders who obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19 September 1991), OR an equivalent point-scale grade from an Indian university or accredited foreign university, in a concerned/relevant/allied subject.
• Candidates must additionally have cleared NET (UGC/CSIR) or an equivalent SLET/SET test.
• Candidates who hold or have been awarded a PhD under UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil/PhD) Regulations 2009 or 2016 may be exempted from NET/SLET/SET, subject to conditions including: PhD awarded in regular mode by a recognized university; thesis evaluated by at least two external examiners; an open PhD viva voce conducted; at least two published research papers (one in a refereed journal); and at least two conference/seminar papers presented, certified by the Registrar or Dean (Academic Affairs) of the concerned university.
• Alternatively, a PhD from a foreign university/institution ranked in the world’s top 500 by QS, THE, or ARWU (Shanghai) is also accepted.
• NET/SLET/SET is not required for Master’s disciplines in which UGC/CSIR/similar bodies do not conduct these tests.

JKPSC Assistant Professor Music Qualification

• Same Master’s-with-NET/PhD route as above in a relevant subject, OR
• Recognition as a traditional and professional artist of high standing, having studied under noted/reputed traditional masters, holding “A” grade artist status with AIR/Doordarshan, with the ability to explain the logical reasoning of the subject and adequate knowledge to teach theory with illustrations.

• Master’s Degree in a relevant subject with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/Differently-abled candidates and PhD holders whose Master’s was awarded before 19 September 1991), from an Indian university or an equivalent foreign degree.
• Must have cleared NET/SLET/SET, or hold a qualifying PhD under UGC 2009/2016 regulations (subject to the same conditions listed above), or hold a PhD from a foreign university ranked in the world’s top 500 (QS/THE/ARWU).

• A consistently good academic record and knowledge of computerisation of libraries.
• Must have cleared NET (UGC/CSIR) or an equivalent SLET/SET, or hold a qualifying PhD under the applicable UGC regulations (subject to conditions similar to those listed for Assistant Professor).

• Master’s Degree in Physical Education and Sports, Physical Education, or Sports Science with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Differently-abled categories), or an equivalent point-scale grade, AND a record of representing the university/college at inter-university/inter-collegiate competitions at state and/or national level.
• Must have cleared NET/SLET/SET, or hold a qualifying PhD (subject to conditions similar to those listed above for Assistant Professor).
• OR – an Asian Games or Commonwealth Games medal winner with at least a postgraduate degree.
• Candidates must also pass a physical fitness test conducted as per UGC Regulations 2018.

Age is reckoned as on 1st January 2026.

• Open Merit (OM): 40 years (not born after 01.01.2008, not born before 01.01.1986)
• Reserved categories: 43 years (not born after 01.01.2008, not born before 01.01.1983)
• In-service candidates/Government employees: 40 years (not born after 01.01.2008, not born before 01.01.1986)
• Physically Challenged: 42 years (not born after 01.01.2008, not born before 01.01.1982)

JKPSC Assistant Professor Salary

Selected candidates will be placed in Pay Band Level-10 of the pay matrix, with a pay range of Rs. 57,700 to Rs. 1,82,400. The notification does not specify additional allowances separately.

JKPSC Assistant Professor Application Fee

Fee must be paid online after successful submission of the application form. Applications submitted without fee payment reflected on the form are treated as incomplete and rejected without notice.

JKPSC Assistant Professor Selection Process

• Selection is made as per Rule 45 of the J&K Public Service Commission (Business & Procedure) Rules, 2021, as amended.
• There will be a written examination consisting of a single paper of 3 hours’ duration with 120 multiple-choice questions. The syllabus is available on the JKPSC official website.
• The syllabus for the post of College Director of Physical Education & Sports will be notified separately.
• The examination will be held at Srinagar and Jammu centres; candidates must indicate their preferred centre, and centre allotment is at the sole discretion of the Commission.

How to Apply for JKPSC Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026

1. Visit the official JKPSC website: jkpsc.nic.in.
2. Click on “One Time Registration” (OTR) if you are a new user, or “Login” if you already have a JKPSC profile.
3. Complete all required OTR fields – personal information, contact information, and educational qualification/service details.
4. Upload a recent date-stamped passport-size colour photograph (not taken earlier than 01.01.2025) and signature, each between 10KB and 20KB in JPEG/JPG format.
5. After submitting OTR details, check the eligibility conditions in the notification before applying for the post.
6. Click “show examination” against the relevant post/exam, select the month of the advertisement notification, and click the “APPLY” link.
7. Read the instruction window carefully, then click “APPLY” again.
8. Fill in any remaining required fields, accept the declaration, verify the details, and click “SUBMIT.”
