The Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), Thiruvarur, is hiring 2 Counsellors (one male and one female) on a temporary contract for its student and university counselling services. The Central University of Tamil Nadu is a central university set up by an Act of Parliament in 2009. It is located at Neelakudi, Thiruvarur – 610 005. The Counsellor posts are for the university’s student and university Counselling Services.

The notice calls this an offline process. Applications must be sent by email to [email protected] between 21 October 2026 and 5 November 2026. The notice does not give a time for the closing date. It does not say whether the date is for receipt or for sending.

Posts, Eligibility and Pay

There are 2 Counsellor posts (02 Nos.): one for a male candidate and one for a female candidate. The work is at Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur.

Essential Qualification

You need one of the qualifications (a) to (d). Candidates with (b), (c) or (d) also need the experience in (e). Everyone needs the registration in (f).

• (a) Two-year M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology / Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from a University/Institution recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). OR
• (b) Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology from a University/Institution recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). OR
• (c) Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology / Clinical Psychology / Psychology / Applied Psychology with a Regular Postgraduate degree in Psychology / Counselling Psychology / Clinical Psychology / Applied Psychology from a recognised university. OR
• (d) Regular Postgraduate qualification in Psychology / Counselling Psychology / Clinical Psychology / Applied Psychology from a recognised university, with a regular Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology / Guidance and Counselling. AND
• (e) For qualifications (b) to (d): at least one year of relevant experience in counselling after completing the qualifying degree, preferably in a Higher Educational Institution. AND
• (f) Valid registration with RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India) or NCAHP (National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions) is mandatory.

Desirable Qualifications

• Proficiency in conducting both individual and group counselling sessions using evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
• Capability to manage psychiatric emergencies and provide effective crisis intervention.
• Competence in developing psycho-educational content aimed at promoting student mental health and well-being.
• Working knowledge of computers, including MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Tamil, with effective interpersonal abilities.
• Prior clinical or counselling experience in a university/college or higher educational setting will be considered an added advantage.
• Insight into the unique psychological challenges faced by students in competitive academic environments.
• Demonstrated empathy, sensitivity to diversity, and a non-judgmental counselling approach.
• Familiarity with a range of counselling techniques, therapeutic modalities and psychological assessment tools.

Age Limit

The upper age limit is 40 years (preferably). The notice does not give an “as on” date for age.

Pay and Terms of Engagement

• Remuneration: Rs. 50,000/- per month (Consolidated).
• Nature of the post: On-Contract (Temporary). The position is purely temporary.
• Duration: initially ONE (01) year. It can be extended based on performance and university requirements.
• Working hours: 5 working days per week, in rotational shifts. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays may be working days as per university requirements. Shifts are assigned based on university requirements.
• The Counsellor must be available on phone after duty hours for emergencies.

CUTN Counsellor Job Description

The Counsellor will work closely with students, faculty members and staff. The role covers counselling services, workshops and campus-wide mental health and well-being initiatives. The listed responsibilities are:

• Provide individualized one-on-one counselling sessions to students.
• Facilitate group counselling sessions addressing common student mental health concerns.
• Organize and deliver workshops, seminars and webinars on mental health and psychological well-being.
• Conduct psychometric assessments and prepare clinical case reports as required.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and manage sensitive student information with discretion and professionalism.
• Conduct regular courses and interactive sessions for Psychology students.
• Conduct training programs for student peer mentors and support volunteers.
• Prepare and submit monthly analytical reports for performance review and program evaluation.
• Provide crisis intervention and manage psychiatric emergencies effectively.
• Collaborate with faculty, hostel wardens and administrative staff to support student well-being initiatives.
