Railway Recruitment Cell, Central Railway (रेल भर्ती सेल, मध्य रेल), under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, is filling two Level-2 posts under the Cultural Quota for 2026-27: one Theatre Actor (Male) (थिएटर अभिनेता (पुरुष)) and one Harmonium Player (हारमोनियम वादक). About RRC CR

The Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) of Central Railway works under the Ministry of Railways and has its office at CPM Conversion Office Building, P D Mello Road, Wadibunder, Mumbai – 400 010. This notice is its Cultural Quota recruitment for 2026-27. RRC only recommends the names of successful candidates; the appointment process is handled by the Principal Chief Personnel Officer of Central Railway.

Vacancy Details

The notice offers 2 posts at Level-2 in two cultural disciplines.

• The posts are open to all; there is no reservation for any caste.
• If no suitable candidate is available for one of the two disciplines, a suitable candidate of the other discipline will be selected instead, irrespective of gender.
• The number of vacancies is tentative and may be reduced or even become nil according to the actual needs of the railway administration.

Who Can Apply

Nationality

A candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 to settle permanently, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam to settle permanently in India. Candidates other than Indian citizens need a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India; they may be admitted to the exam provisionally but must produce it at document verification.

Educational Qualification (both posts)

• 12th (+2 stage) or equivalent from a recognised board with at least 50% aggregate marks. The 50% condition does not apply to SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen/PwBD candidates or to candidates with a qualification higher than 12th; OR
• Matriculation from a recognised board and Course Completed Act Apprenticeship; OR
• Matriculation from a recognised board and ITI approved by NCVT/SCVT.

Persons appointed as Clerk-cum-Typist must pass a typing test at 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi within two years of appointment; their appointment stays temporary until then.

Essential Professional Qualification and Desirable Qualification

Candidates must also upload a certificate from the institution confirming that it is recognised by the Central or State Government, or run by a Government body set up under an Act of Parliament or a State Legislature. A candidate who cannot upload it will be treated as provisionally eligible and allowed to sit the written exam, but must submit it on the day of document verification, failing which the candidature will be cancelled. Candidates without the professional qualification need not apply.

Desirable – Theatre Actor (Male)

• Preference to candidates proficient in script writing and direction.
• Three years’ experience in Acting/Script Writing/Direction; preference to experience with Doordarshan/All India Radio/a reputed or national television channel/a reputed theatre group (documentary proof required).
• Certificate of an individual award in Acting/Script Writing/Direction at state/national level competitions.
• Certificates of participation in state/national/international theatre festivals.
• Knowledge of light designing/light operating/set designing gives an additional advantage.

Desirable – Harmonium Player

• Three years’ experience of playing harmonium with Doordarshan/All India Radio/a reputed television musical group or channel (documentary proof required).
• An individual award or certificate for harmonium playing at state or national level competitions/programmes.
• Experience or mastery in playing ‘Lehra’ or accompanying classical/instrumental solo performances gives an additional advantage.
• Proficiency in playing Hindi songs (film/semi-classical) on keyboard, with a certificate from a reputed music group.

A “reputed” theatre or musical group means one that has performed on various stages with national-level artists, or includes artists who have worked in All India Radio, television or the film industry. The railway reserves the right to reject any application. In the online form, candidates should give details of participation as Grade ‘A’/’B’ artist or scholarship holder in AIR and Doordarshan, and in international, national, state and district level competitions, festivals and workshops.

थिएटर अभिनेता के लिए अभिनय, निर्देशन और पटकथा लेखन में तीन साल का अनुभव और प्रतिष्ठित संस्थाओं के साथ जुड़ाव व पुरस्कार वरीयता देते हैं। हारमोनियम वादक के लिए भी तीन साल का अनुभव जरूरी है और क्लासिकल या हिंदी गानों में दक्षता लाभकारी है। रेलवे किसी भी आवेदन को अस्वीकार करने का अधिकार रखती है।

Age Limit

The age limit is 18 to 30 years (for Unreserved), counted as on 01/01/2027. Date of birth must fall between the dates below, both days included.

Age Relaxation

Serving defence personnel due to retire within one year of the closing date, 04/12/2026, may also apply.

Pay and Tenure

Both posts are at Level-2. On initial appointment, pay will be the minimum of the pay level, with other allowances as admissible at that time. Where training is prescribed for the post, selected candidates must undergo it and only a stipend, as applicable, is paid during training. Wherever required, candidates must pay a security deposit and execute an indemnity bond. Selected candidates may be posted anywhere on Central Railway, and male candidates finally appointed are liable for active service in the Railway Engineers unit of the Territorial Army.

Application Fee

The fee is paid through the payment gateway integrated with the online application, by debit card, credit card or internet banking; bank transaction charges are borne by the candidate. Ineligible candidates who still apply will not get a refund, and the fee is not refunded if the vacancies are cancelled. Minority candidates (Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Zoroastrian (Parsi)) claiming exemption or refund must give the self-declaration in Annexure ‘A’ and an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper at document verification. Economically Backward Class candidates (annual family income below Rs. 50,000) must produce an income certificate in the prescribed proforma from an authorised authority (District Magistrate or revenue officer up to Tahsildar, sitting MPs, Union Ministers, or a BPL card/IZZAT MST certificate) at document verification.

How to Apply for RRC CR Recruitment 2026

1. Go to www.rrccr.com and follow the detailed guidelines given there for the online application.
2. Log on and fill in personal details/bio-data carefully, including the 12-digit Aadhaar number or the 28-digit Aadhaar enrolment ID (applicants from Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya and Assam may enter voter ID, passport, driving licence or another valid Government ID number).
3. Give an active mobile number and email ID; all RRC messages will be sent by email/SMS.
4. Upload a colour passport-size photograph (3.5 cm x 3.5 cm, JPG/JPEG, 100 DPI, 20–70 KB, not older than three months, without cap or sunglasses) and a running-hand signature (3.5 cm x 2.5 cm, JPG/JPEG, 100 DPI, 20–30 KB), not in block/capital or disjoint letters.
5. Upload the documents listed below and enter the details of your desirable qualifications.
6. Pay the fee through the payment gateway; no change or edit is allowed after payment. Save or print the e-receipt.
7. Note the registration account ID and take a printout of the application, which must be produced at document verification and practical demonstration. Nothing is to be sent to RRC by post.

Documents to Upload

• Marksheet/certificate of the minimum educational qualification (para 2(a)).
• Professional qualification certificate (para 2(b)).
• Date of birth proof: Class 10 certificate or marksheet, or school leaving certificate showing the date of birth.
• Caste certificate for SC/ST/OBC candidates, where applicable – SC/ST in the Annexure ‘C’ format; OBC Non-Creamy Layer in the Central Government format (Annexure ‘D’), issued on or after 01/04/2026.
• The institution recognition certificate described under professional qualification.

Selection and Interview

Selection consists of a Written Examination/CBT/Tab Mode, then Document Verification, then a Practical Demonstration. There will be no interview. Only candidates who pass the written exam are called for document verification and the practical demonstration.

• Negative marking: 1/3 of the marks allotted to a question is deducted for each wrong answer.
• A minimum of 40% marks in the written exam is needed to qualify for the practical demonstration.
• RRC may, at its discretion, hold the written exam for all or a limited number of candidates.
• The date, time and venue of the written exam, practical demonstration and document verification will be fixed by RRC and told to eligible candidates in due course; requests for postponement will not be accepted.
• Eligibility status will be shown on the RRC website, and the e-call letter will be available there about seven days before the written exam; no admit card is sent by post.

Important Dates

आवेदन 5 नवंबर 2026 को सुबह 10 बजे से शुरू होकर 4 दिसंबर 2026 शाम 6 बजे तक ऑनलाइन किए जा सकते हैं। आयु सीमा 1 जनवरी 2027 को लागू होगी।

Important Instructions

• At the exam hall, bring the e-call letter, Aadhaar card or a valid photo ID, one colour passport-size photograph and original SC/ST/OBC certificate where applicable; without a valid photo ID entry is refused.
• On the practical demonstration day, bring originals of age, qualification, caste and cultural discipline documents, self-attested photocopies, your own cultural kit and four passport-size photographs; certificates in other languages need a certified English/Hindi translation.
• Candidates may need to stay 2–3 days for the practical demonstration at their own arrangement; no TA/DA or accommodation is given.
• Candidates already working in PSUs/Government organisations must produce a No Objection Certificate from their employer at the practical demonstration.
• SC/ST candidates who upload a valid caste certificate (Annexure ‘C’) can get a free second-class railway pass for the written exam and must carry the original certificate and ID while travelling.
• Candidates debarred for life by any RRB/RRC, or for a period not yet over, need not apply; multiple applications with different details will be rejected.
• Mobile phones, calculators, Bluetooth devices and other communication devices are not allowed at the exam venue.
• Appointment is subject to medical fitness, final verification of educational and caste certificates and verification of antecedents/character. Legal matters fall under the jurisdiction of CAT, Mumbai only.
