The Department of Community Medicine, JIPMER Karaikal, needs 5 contract project staff for the ICMR-funded PREVENT-D Study on preventable drowning events in Puducherry. The posts are 1 Project Technical Support-III (Rs 28,000 a month), 1 Project Technical Support-II (Rs 20,000 a month) and 3 Project Technical Support-I (Rs 18,000 a month), each with HRA as admissible, for a likely duration of one year. The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) is a medical education and research institute with its letterhead address at Dhanwantri Nagar, Puducherry-6, and a campus at Karaikal. These posts are in an externally funded research project run by the Department of Community Medicine, JIPMER Karaikal. The Project Investigator is Dr L. Karthik Balajee, Additional Professor, and the PREVENT-D Study looks at drowning events and emergency response in Puducherry through multi-source surveillance.

Who Can Apply

Each post has its own essential qualification, desirable skills and maximum age. The age limit for every post is counted as on the last date of receipt of applications. Qualification and experience should be in a relevant discipline/field and from a reputed institution/organization, and the experience should have been gained after acquiring the essential qualification. Ability to communicate in Tamil and English is desirable for all three posts.

Age relaxation: up to 5 years for candidates with experience in a government research organisation, as per ICMR norms (this applies to all three posts).

Essential qualification (any one route):

• Three years’ graduate degree in a relevant Subject/field in Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Work, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, Life Sciences, Statistics/Biostatistics, Data Science + three years post-qualification experience; or
• PG in relevant subjects /field; or
• For engineering /IT/CS: four years’ graduate degree.

Desirable:

• Experience coordinating public-health or community research.
• Experience in supervising field staff and monitoring data quality.
• Familiarity with spreadsheets, digital data collection and preparation of research reports.

• PG in relevant subjects /field (work experience is not required under this route).

Desirable:

• Experience entering, checking and managing health-research data.
• Ability to use spreadsheets and digital data-collection applications.
• Experience matching records, identifying duplicates and resolving data queries.
• Familiarity with statistical or GIS software.

• PG in relevant subjects /field (work experience is not required under this route).

Desirable:

• Experience in community surveys, hospital record review or field data collection.
• Ability to use a tablet or smartphone for data collection.
• Familiarity with GPS/location recording.

Project Technical Support-III

• Staff will be assigned duties in Puducherry and/or Karaikal according to project requirements.
• The work includes hospital and administrative record review, community visits, interviews, verification of drowning events, environmental site assessments and digital data collection. Travel between study sites may be required.
• Coordinate surveillance activities across the study locations.
• Maintain the site calendar, permission tracker and progress records.
• Supervise field staff and monitor completion of assigned work.
• Liaise with authorised hospital, police, rescue service, and community nodal persons.
• Coordinate resolution of missing or inconsistent information.
• Assist the investigators with progress reports and stakeholder meetings.
• Any other project-related work assigned by the PI from time to time.

• Conduct completeness and consistency checks.
• Maintain data-query, correction and backup records.
• Any other project-related work assigned by the PI from time to time.

• Identify and document eligible events through authorised study sources.
• Extract approved information from records using standard study forms.
• Conduct verification visits and interview eligible adult participants, including adult parents or guardians of child cases, after obtaining informed consent in accordance with the approved protocol.
• Record locations and complete environmental-assessment forms.
• Coordinate with approved community informants and institutional nodal persons.
• Enter data promptly and resolve queries under supervision.
• Assist with arrangements and documentation for expert-led first-response sessions.
• Any other project-related work assigned by the PI from time to time.

For all three posts, the notice says the duties are indicative and not exhaustive: project staff shall carry out any work assigned by the PI in the interest of the project, including shift duty, field visits and administrative tasks. Refusal to carry out assigned work will be treated as unsatisfactory performance and may lead to termination of the engagement without notice.

Applications are accepted only by email, in the prescribed format (REC-03 Application Format attached to the advertisement).

1. Print the application form on A4-size paper and fill it in block letters using a blue pen. Strike out the posts not applied for.
2. Affix a recent passport size photo (do not staple), fill in personal details, educational qualifications from SSLC/Matriculation onwards, previous employment, a description of your experience (up to 500 words), and contact details of previous employers, then sign the declaration.
3. Answer the form’s question on willingness to undertake record review, participant interviews and field visits, and to travel between study locations in Puducherry and Karaikal.
4. Scan the filled form, CV and self-attested supporting documents into one PDF, with certificates in the order of the checklist.
5. Name the PDF as “Candidate Name_Post-name_year_application” (the notice’s example: “James__PTS1_2026_application”).
6. Email it to [email protected], writing the name of the post applied for in the email subject line.
7. Send it by 5:00 PM on 19 November 2026. To apply for two or more posts, fill a separate form for each post and send each with its enclosures in a separate email.

Selection and Interview

Applicants will be shortlisted based on the details furnished in the application, CV and documentary proof, and the list of eligible candidates will also be displayed on the JIPMER website. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test and/or interview. The final selection will be based on the CV, application, and written test/interview. If the number of applications is very large, more stringent criteria than those specified may be used to determine eligibility. The decision of the Project Investigator will be final.

• Written test: project-related topics including surveillance, accurate record extraction, consent and confidentiality, digital data collection, data quality, basic interpretation of health information, general aptitude, computer skills and duties relevant to the post.
• Skill test: record extraction, Tamil interview demonstration, data entry/checking and study documentation, data entry in MS Excel/database software.
• Interview: subject knowledge, communication skills in Tamil and English, and suitability for the project.

The written test and interview will be conducted in person at the Department of Community Medicine, Academic Building, JIPMER Karaikal, FCI Road, Kovilpathu, Karaikal – 609602. The date and time of the interview will be notified one week in advance. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
