The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) announced the scheme and syllabus for the Safety Officer in HPGCL, Power Department, Haryana (Advertisement No. 05/2025) on 28 September 2026. The selection has two stages: a 150-mark, 3-hour subjective Subject Knowledge Test with 87.5% weightage, and an interview with 12.5% weightage. सेफ्टी ऑफिसर परीक्षा में दो मुख्य चरण हैं: पहला विषय ज्ञान परीक्षा जिसमें 150 अंक और 3 घंटे होते हैं, और दूसरा इंटरव्यू। इंटरव्यू को अंतिम चयन में 12.5% महत्व दिया गया है, जबकि विषय ज्ञान परीक्षा का 87.5% महत्व है।

HPSC Safety Officer Exam Pattern

Stage 1: Subject Knowledge Test

6. Basic Knowledge of Workshop Science

• Measuring instruments and gauges, introduction to manufacturing processes, basic terminology
• Materials: engineering materials, properties, nomenclature, basics of heat treatment
• Fitting: tools, measuring and marking, sawing, filing, tapping and die, introduction to drills
• Welding: electric arc and gas welding processes and equipment, soldering and brazing, types of sheets (ferrous and non-ferrous), standard sheet sizes, sheet metal tools
• Metal cutting: classification of machine tools and cutting tools, basic operations on lathe, drilling, shaper, milling, cutting tool material, work-holding devices, cutting parameters (speed, feed, depth of cut)
• Casting: pattern types, moulding sand and its properties, casting process and defects

• Single-phase A.C. circuits: EMF generation, form factor, peak factor, rms and average value, phasor diagram, resistive, inductive and capacitive circuits, series and parallel circuits, RLC series circuits, resonance, Q factor; three-phase A.C. circuits (general relations)
• Magnetic circuits and transformers: analogy between electric and magnetic circuits, B-H curve, hysteresis loop, inductances in series and parallel, hysteresis and eddy current losses
• Transformers: construction, EMF equation, rating, phasor diagram on no-load and loaded conditions
• Electrical machines and instruments: three-phase induction motors (construction, working, applications); moving iron, PMMC, dynamometer and induction type instruments, torque equation, dynamometer type wattmeter

• Introduction to computers: generations, characteristics and classification, components, types of memory, software and its types, operating system, algorithm and flow chart

How to Prepare for the HPSC Safety Officer Test

1. Print the official syllabus and mark each of the nine sections.
2. Practise long-form written answers, since the paper is subjective. Time yourself against the 3-hour limit.
3. Write in English, as the question paper will be in English.
4. Target well above 35%. The interview call depends on it, and the test carries 87.5% of the final merit.
5. Revise diagrams and derivations for mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical and drawing topics.
